different environments- school clubs, classrooms, Summer Schools
page shows a recent project collaboration with Highwood School,
Highwood Village Hall. I was given the brief to design and
produce some artwork with the local community for the main hall
wall. We produced eight large canvases, each with a different
theme in oil pastel. The design was based around each letter
of the word HIGHWOOD- Hopes for the future, Inclusive, Generosity,
Home, Wishes,Opportunity, Opening doors and Dreams. Each is
intended to inspire and be thought-provoking for the viewer.
project involved the whole community- the children, the staff
and governors of the school and parents. It certainly makes
an impact as you walk through the doors into the hall! The finished
product had a grand unveiling at the Village Hall Grand Open
Day, attended by many dignitaries and Graham Gooch. More recently,
at the Digging and Planting day, the Mayor and Mayoress of Chelmsford
had an opportunity to view the canvases.
recent project includes an Olympic Art Project at William
Martin Junior School (download PDF part 1) in Harlow, Essex.
Part One- four canvases outlining the ethics and ideals of the
2012 Olympics produced by Year 3 and 4 children is now complete.
Part Two (download
PDF part 2), the work of Year 5 and Six, in early spring
2012, focussing on the ideals of the Paralympics. Part Three
was a special event to mark Sport In Art Week. All children
designed a motif for their Year Group. Through a competition,
four winning designs were chosen and then crafted using junk.
This was then displayed on the wall of the outside playground
area as shown below:-

for all your energy, enthusiasm and creativity. The work our
children did was fantastic and we cannot wait for the second
stage of our Olympic Project!" Mrs

thanks to art teacher, Kate Millner. Kate's ability to conceptualise
the spirit of "Community" has helped produce a magnificent
and original piece of artwork, admired by the local and wider
community. Her positive enthusiasm and ability to engage with
all age groups involved in the creation of this artwork, was
a significant ingredient to maximise the community participation
we were trying to achieve." Petra
